Portrait embroidery from a photo. Tips for ideal color transitions through color mixing.
We embroider with a limited number of thread colors.
If you feel that the transitions between the colors are too contrasty (see photo below), we can fix the problem.

By mixing colors: 2-ply, 3-ply and 4-ply, I achieve perfect color transitions.

From orange to pink, we gradually reduce the number of orange threads and add pink.
Row 1: 4 orange + 2 pink = 6-ply.
Row 2: 3 orange + 3 pink = 6-ply
Row 3: 2 orange + 4 pink = 6-ply
The 4th row is already a single color: pink, 6-ply.
The total number of threads we use for embroidery remains unchanged (6).

You can now see that after three rows of mixed threads, the transition is not as contrasting.

The transition looks even more natural when different colored threads lie next to each other with gaps. For example, we embroider one stitch in one color and the adjacent stitch in another color.

This makes our color transition perfect.
